Maryland Heatwave Continues with Storms; Cooler Temps Friday
Storms and Scorching Heat Continue Across Maryland, Relief Expected Friday

Maryland’s stretch of extreme summer weather continues Thursday with more heat and the threat of afternoon storms. While today will bring sweltering temperatures and stormy skies, a brief break in the heat is expected by Friday.
Thursday Forecast: High Heat and Storm Risk
Temperatures across the state are expected to climb into the mid-90s today, with heat index values reaching the triple digits. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for most of Maryland.
Starting mid-afternoon, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop around 2 or 3 p.m. and continue into the evening. These storms may impact the evening commute, so drivers should be prepared for possible delays and changing road conditions.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed Maryland under a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather, meaning isolated severe storms are possible. These could bring gusty winds and hail.
Friday Brings Some Relief
After several record-breaking heat days, Friday will offer a cooldown. Highs will drop into the low 80s, but storms remain in the forecast during the afternoon and evening hours.
Weekend Outlook: Heat Returns
The break will be short-lived. By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to rebound into the low 90s, with a chance for additional storms both days.
The heat and storm pattern looks set to continue into Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday is shaping up to be a beautiful day—sunny skies, lower humidity, and highs in the low 90s.
