THE BUZZ!

Not sure if you heard this one.  About a Maryland woman named Gabrielle Miles, who graduated with honors from Salisbury University, suddenly gets hit with a $14,000 tuition bill from UMBC—a school she says she never even attended.

This all started back in 2015 when she considered going to UMBC but ended up picking Salisbury instead. Fast forward to 2024, and BOOM,  collection notices start popping up. Even worse, the state took her tax refund to start paying it off.

UMBC claimed she owed over $12,000 in tuition plus $2,000 in late fees after she registered, paid a deposit, and never withdrew. And get this, UMBC told her to prove she never went there by contacting her professors from 10 years ago. What!

After months of fighting through red tape, she finally got help from a news publication. And UMBC finally dropped the debt.

So for the class of 2025 getting ready to go on to college, definitely something to be aware of.
