Lawyers are known for finding loopholes or way around certain laws to help their clients. Well, that’s what this guy Michael Tanzi’s  lawyer is trying to do. Michael is on death row in Florida and scheduled for lethal injection on April 8th. But his lawyers are trying to put a pause on everything.  Basically arguing that their client’s super serious obesity and health issues could make the whole thing go totally wrong.

They’re saying the lethal injection drugs might not work properly on him because of his weight. They’re worried he could be conscious but paralyzed, feeling like he’s burning from the inside. And, get this, they’re saying he could basically drown in his own fluids because of his acid reflux and sleep apnea. Adding that it would be cruel and unusual punishment. They even argued that there could be difficulty placing the IV lines that carry the three-drug lethal injection cocktail.

Now, the state’s like, “Nah, we got this.” They’re saying the drugs will work, and his legal team waited way too long to bring this up. But his lawyers are insisting that the execution protocols just aren’t designed for someone with his medical conditions.
Well in Florida, executions must be carried out by lethal injection or electric chair. And if this goes through, it’ll be Florida’s third execution this year.
