Jussie Smollett’s conviction in 2019 attack on himself is overturned


Oh man, you’re not going to believe this—Jussie Smollett just got his conviction overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court! Yep, that whole situation where he was accused of faking a hate crime? It’s been thrown out.
Quick recap: Back in 2019, Jussie said two men attacked him in Chicago, shouted slurs, and put a noose around his neck. It was huge news! But then things took a turn—prosecutors claimed he staged it all.

Well Jussie was convicted in 2021 was convicted and sentenced to 150 days in jail (he only served six). Add in probation and a big fine.
But here’s where it gets messy: the original charges were dropped after he did some community service and gave up $10K. Then, a special prosecutor reopened the case and got him convicted.
Jussie’s team argued that was unfair, and apparently, the Illinois Supreme Court agreed. They tossed the whole thing out.
