Ray Tensing Free After Posting 100k On Bail, Coddled While In Prison

Ray Tensing, the former University of Cincinnati cop, has been getting quite the special treatment in the proceedings over the death of Samuel DuBose. After Tensing unexpectedly shot DuBose in the head at a traffic stop, Tensing was sent to prison on a murder charge with $1 million bond. His father posted the minimum 10 percent at $100,085, freeing Tensing following only 27 hours in prison. He was checked in on by security every 10 minutes to ensure that Tensing didn’t harm himself. Prison officials also made sure to show the killer cop a movie to cheer him up given the circumstances. Filimoni Raiyawa died after an altercation with San Francisco police officers on Thursday morning. Raiyawa, 57, was a hit-and-run suspect who was also wanted for beating an elderly man. The cause of Raiyawa’s death has not been released to the public; two officers injured in the scuffle are now being treated at a local hospital. Read more at the San Francisco Chronicle.

Zimbabwe Begins Extradition Process For Cecil Killer

Zimbabwe’s Prosecutor-General has begun the process to have US dentist Walter Palmer extradited over killing the renowned lion, Cecil, a beloved and popular attraction at Hwange National Park. Palmer has gone into hiding for illegally hunting, skinning and beheading a lion that was being studied by Oxford researchers. The dentist was been swarmed with death threats and criticism online and the United Nations has already cited Cecil’s killing, using it as an incentive to crack down on unlawful poaching and wildlife trafficking. Meanwhile, Tim Fernholz of Quartz writes that African wildlife are more in danger of being killed by locals than by foreign hunters. Read more at Sky News and Quartz.

Forensic Scientists: Toxicology Report For Sandra Bland Offers Incomplete, Possibly Inaccurate Information

Following Sandra Bland’s burial, forensic scientists are now disputing the data outlined in her initial toxicology report. The report claims that she ingested marijuana around the time of her death. But it doesn’t clearly state how much was in her blood when she passed. Furthermore, the information on her marijuana use doesn’t clarify when she used the substance or how much her senses had been impaired by it. Despite speculation that Bland smoked or ingested marijuana while in custody, the Waller County District Attorney’s office says there’s no evidence backing up that claim. Group Of Chicago Moms Against Gun Violence Shut Down Local Shootings

When a group of three women were shot at, one of them fatally, in her Chicago neighborhood of Englewood, Tamar Manasseh decided to do something about it. She founded Mothers Against Senseless Killings, an anti-gun violence watch group that surveillances neighborhood streets to deter local shootouts. In the five weeks that the group has been formed, there have yet to be any episodes of gun activity. Manasseh spoke on what motivated her to put together the coalition, saying: “I realized that if I’m going to save my own children, I’m going to have to work on saving everyone else’s.” Read more at DNAinfo Chicago.

In a strange and oddly unfortunate series of events, Bob Coman, a Mississippi man and Korean War vet walked out to his driveway that the words “Blacks Rule” were scrawled on the ground and his state flag—which strongly resembles the Confederate flag—was torn down and charred in the dirt. Locals have taken pity on the attack against Coman by giving him new flags, and the Pascagoula Police Department are looking into the matter but they are hesitant to refer to the incident as a hate crime. Cruel & Unusual: Alabama Prisoner Being Forced Into Pregnancy As DA Tries To Block Her Parental Rights

A prisoner in Alabama is now in a bitter legal battle with officials over her request to have an abortion while in custody. The woman was unable to terminate the pregnancy before being arrested and is now scared that she’ll be forced to carry the pregnancy to term if the state doesn’t grant her her wish. Meanwhile, a district attorney is trying to argue against the prisoner’s request and is not only asking the court to take away her parental rights, but has gotten the state court to appoint a lawyer for the fetus during the proceedings.
